    The Kite Runner is a adventurous novel written by Khaled Hosseini. It tells a story of Amir, a rich Afghan citizen facing a truth about Afghanistan and experiences about life.

    The most adventurous unique section is when Amir go back to Afghanistan and found out about what he left behind, his family, his past, and ultimately his friend. However, his ultimate struggle is getting what he once had lost.

Every single book is full of flaw, this book is no exception. Even though this book was extremely interesting and naturally pull reader into the book and wouldn’t let the reader go until the reader is finish with the book. Sometime it seems that the story isn’t that transparent for what it is trying to say. This is a problem because sometime people will get lost and continue to be lost because of and doesn’t understand the book at all unless the book clear itself or someone explain to the reader.

“December 2001

I became what I am today at the age of twelve, on a frigid overcast day in the winter of 1975. I remember the precise moment, crouching behind a crumbling mud wall, peeking into the alley near the frozen creek. That was a long time ago, but it’s wrong what they say about the past, I’ve learned, about how you can bury it. Because the past claws its way out. Looking back now, I realize I have been into that deserted alley for the last twenty-six years.”(Kite Runner, Page 1)

Chapter one of this book was very interesting because it reveal hint of the future, yet it doesn’t explain what kind of future. This sometime will confuse people because they need to know why is that chapter there. In this paragraph Amir is basically explaining that he became what he is at the age of twelve, with a setting. He also explain some things about the pasts that isn’t that related to the story also. This part is very confusing because it end on third paragraph and then just move on to chapter two. The confusing part start here.The transition between the two chapter can be extremely confusing as there is no date to show that there is a time shift and the author just start narrating about his pasts.The author introduce so many different character names and what they do that it will be so confusing, especially the author doesn’t really introduce what the main character name is until the middle of chapter two.

   

Amir is basically the main narrator of this unique story written by Khaled Hosseni. Amir life is a mess because he made many mistakes. He gotten what he thought was important to him, but until the very end of the novel he does not know how to hold on to what he think is important. This cause Amir to lost most of the stuff that was important to him, and despite him trying to get back those things what lost is lost.

    After Assef rape Hassan, Ali grew suspision and ask Amir:

“‘Did something happen to him, Amir Agha? Something he’s not telling me?’

I shrugged. ‘How should I know?’

‘You would tell me, nay? Inshallah, you would tell me if something had happened.

‘Like I said, how should I know what’s wrong with him. I snapped. ‘Maybe he’s sick. People get sick all the time, Ali. Now, am I going to freeze to death or are you planning on lighting the stove today?’”(Kite Runner, Page 81)

This conversation shows two things about Amir: a coward and a liar. Amir is a coward because that conversation is about Hassan. Hassan is Amir best and loyal friend, but Amir decide not to help Hassan when he is getting beat-up because Hassan stand up for him. Amir is also a liar because he knows the truth about Hassan, yet he made a decision of abandoning his friend and lie about he doesn’t know anything at all during the moment where Hassan is hurt the most.

However, their friendship could still be restore. Amir made a unbelievable choice that changes Amir and Hassan friendships forever. During the time where Amir throw pomegranate to Hassan and tells Hassan to retaliate. During this moment Amir can still restore their friendship, but after this Amir decide to frame Hassan about stealing his watch. Amir and Hassan’s bonds was broken by the lies that build up through times.

Amir is also a coward. He is unwilling to stand-up for what he wishes to proctect. This cause him to make many mistakes. Amir is also a coward for not trying to understand his native country. Amir will always remain a coward unless Amir have found what he think is important enough that he will risk his life for that important thing or person. This is impossible for Amir at the start of the story because he was willing to ignore his friend and lie about him when he trying to support him. This is very important because then later on in the story Amir was willing to risk his life. This shows us that he is very regretful. Its show us that he is regretful by the fact how during the begining of the story he was being a jerk and only thought of himself, but then later on in the story he was willing to risk his life and everything he have for Sohrab, Hassan child. This is very important because regret is really powerful especially if it over the past. This is true for Amir as he has done something very unforgivable to Hassan. Regret is powerful enough to drive a person insane, but Amir doesn’t want to go insane and thus thought that if he atone for what he done in the past then he be heal from that feeling. This shows us that Amir is still a human and have feeling after all of that.
