Does it matter where you go to college?

After reading all of the debate about college, I feel that most of them seem like a bluff without any proof to back them up.

Anthony P.Carnevale ,a research professor, and the director of the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce.

He wrote:
"Graduation rates in the top 100 colleges exceed 90 percent compared with less than 40 percent at the least prestigious four year colleges and all community colleges. And among equally qualified students --those who score 1200 out of a possible 1600 on the SAT -- 96 percent of those who go to the selective colleges graduate, while those who go to the least selective four-year colleges graduate at a rate of 78 percent."(Carnevale, Par.2)

If you have check his website then you will notice that there aren't any link to support his numbers of data. In other word, without support you can just take off those number away. Without those numbers then his debate seem to be one of the he doesn't know what is he talking about type of debate, and those who just bluff their way through stuff. His thesis is at that level... unless he actually provide information that could back up his data with those number. I have tried to locate where those data came from, but no luck so far so unless he doesn't provide the location of those data then he is just bluffing.

I do agree with him, however, that going to top 100 college seem like a better idea because they aren't just top college without a reason (either they get there through bribery or the ability of the school, that I do not know), but they does seem like a good bet, but the question is why does it seem like a good bet? This, I think, is because parent has been talking about getting to one of the top 100 colleges in the US and the children are being influence. Most student that are trying to get into one of the top 100 colleges, if you ask them why, it will be very hard for them to try to answer you. In the end, it all just discrinimation and ignorant because the parent decide to just trust what the magazine is telling you and not take their time browsing through every college to find what is best for their child.
