Cisnero Sandra has wrote a vignette which describe that the society has been trying to cover up and hide things from teenage girls and those girls won't ever notice them unless they experience the truth first-hand.. In the vignette "Red Clowns," Cisneros narrates Esperanzas' sexual assult. Experanza expresses her confusion about the ideas she had always heard about regarding romance and love:
All the books and magazine, everything that told it wrong. This is what Esperanzas' express after the sexual assault. This show disbelief and lies from the society. The real things is technically different from what the books or magazine will ever say but why does the society do this? Why does they want to hide the truth from teenage girls? The answer that Cisnero would answer is that the reason for all of this is that the society has been trying to raise girls and boys the same way. This naturally create a problem for them as when the boys and girls grow up to teenage boys and girls, they would learn about their sexuality and they would soon learn that the method is not the best. The way to prevent this that the society tried is using the media to control the truth and lies.
Also, even though there are the problems of lies from the society, there are also typical stereotype. The most common stereotype for girls is that they grow up to prepare for marriage. This, however, is false. The reason for this is being not all teenage girls grow up to prepare for marriage. Some become lesbian or just anti-guy. Other decide not to develop a romantic or marriage relationship. Meanwhile, the society once again use the media to show that teenage girls are grow up to prepare for marriage.
Since you always get to look beautiful, ... and take you to live in a big house far away. (26)This has a implication that if teenage girls are look beautiful, then they will easily attract a good partner for marriage and get to live a luxury life. This is a misconception of the society that they tried to make teenage girl believing. The reason I would say it is a misconception because that actually never happen in the vignettes. Also this opinion seem one-sided to me as what if the teenage girls refuses the marriage proposal. What if she is actually a lesbian? All of those possible possibility create a counter effects for the opinion. This is the implication that Cisnero Sandra has tried to implied.
